Which are most important to read comic books to get a good overview of the Marvel universe?

I understand that much, I'm just curious what everything should be reading if you want to learn more about the universe. I will deal with Ultimate Alternative universes next chapter. If there is any objective must read them, they will also be assessed. Answers, the first are not very useful. I do not want to be rude, simply stated, I am looking for a story without the need to read all the gold / silver age each character. List of spoilers last year is quite harmful.

If you want quick refresher course to familiarize with the fundamentals of the Marvel universe I would suggest borders and would look through their graphic novels section. Most major characters / groups a book called "x-men/spdiderman/Ironman Universe" which tells the story important and fundamental events in each of their stories. Marvel.com a font of information as well. Large players who you should be aware are: The Fantastic Four; The Avengers; Spiderman, Iron Man, X-Men and Captain America. These are the most influential stories in Marvel universe, everything else is great just is not so important. There are a ton of history to pass, and the first poster said the last few years have had some amazing changes.
