Many people head to their articles or chapters of the book with a quote, it gives gravitas, authority and authenticity in what follows. In all like a good quote, though seeing the same quotes and anecdotes repeatedly, (Edison and light his lamps, Colonel Sanders and his chickens), begins to grate after a while.
With this in mind, here is a quote that changed my life, from "The Book of Five Rings" by Miyamoto Musashi (translated by Thomas Cleary). Have a read and I will explain why.
"Guard Type V"
Five kinds of guards are position high, middle position, the lower position, right guard, and left-handed guard. Although the guard can be divided into five types, all of are intended to kill people. No other types of guards in addition to these five.

Have The Book of Five Rings found the amount of fifty pence in beautiful Oxfam. At that time I was manager of operations for a media firm. I led 12 managers and 160 staff across three days and night shifts in a business that ran 24 / 7 and ended only on Christmas Day. Getting everyone moving in the same direction was often a challenge, because we were a feisty bunch, with big egos. There were many heated conversations and passionate arguments. I must admit that sometimes, I come from a meeting and I feel like I had just received a good start.
When we are under attack, people will look for Our points of soft and sensitive, they aim at our emotions and our pride. This could knock us off balance and make us feel hurt and angry. If our pride is hurt, we can counter attack irrationally and ineffectively, and this will make us look even weaker.
Rather than have a weak attack against it is better to save and accept that you can not have all the answers, need more time, even acknowledge mistakes or oversights and apologize. Do not show anger, but to strive for spiritual appeasement, put your ego on hold and demonstrate unwavering calm.
