While the rumored expansion of the Big Ten conference, and the potential addition of Notre Dame to it seems to be grabbing all of the attention recently, it seems as if the Pac-10 has something in store up their sleeves as well, trying to make a move to obtain a few of the biggest name Big 12 schools in an effort to create a huge power conference.
The Pac-10 is prepared to make offers to six Big 12 schools to come join their conference. Texas, Texas A&M, Texas Tech, Oklahoma, Oklahoma State and Colorado are rumored to be the schools that the Pac-10 is seeking to add. That is truly a who's who of the Big 12, especially adding the big time Texas vs Oklahoma rivalry to the mix. Imagine these schools mixed in with the likes of USC, Oregon, California and the other Pac-10 teams and you are looking at the strongest conference in all of the land.
The move would obviously cripple the Big 12 if all were to accept the bid, forcing all of the other teams such as Nebraska, Missouri, Kansas and Kansas State to either try to merge with the Pac-10 as well, or perhaps look to expanding in the potential Big Ten conference move as well. The Big 12 would effectively be a non existant conference if these moves were to occur.
However, the SEC, feeling threatened that if these teams were to be added into the Pac-10 would take away from their luster as the best college conference, are rumored to be extending offers to Texas, Texas A&M, Oklahoma, and Oklahoma State. Could you imagine if those four were added to the already loaded SEC roster of teams?
This propositon could go either way, or it could go nowhere and the Big 12 would elect to stay the same. I, however, believe a move should be made. Adding such teams into either the SEC or Pac-10 would benefit us, the fans of college football, and give us more great games and rivalries to look forward to.
