...if you're like me it may have taken a while! A shameful two minutes if I'm honest. But before that, the barely contained grins of the cabin crew and their rather rubbery,skin tight wetsuit clothing hints at something unexpected...
Then when you realise that all four of the flight attendants and even the pilot are naked as they talk through the 'Bare Essentials' in-flight safety procedures, it is hilarious!
The magic lies in the brilliant realism of their painted on 'uniform' and relies on your ignorance of their nakedness, though it's fascinating to watch again when their belly buttons and nipples seem quite obvious!
As many people ignore the standard in-flight advice, Air New Zealand's aim was to get people to pay attention - which it certainly has done. And ads like this, once their on YouTube, can go viral in stratospheric proportions.
By word of mouth (like this article), building on the buzz around the ad, the company gets publicity and brand awareness for free - which is what the most successful viral campaigns try to do.
Air New Zealand have done it brilliantly. The elements of surprise, humour and subtly make the ad memorable and, in turn, the airline and what they are promoting - "the airline whose fares have nothing to hide" - quite literally!
I should think we'd all pay attention if our flight attendants were suited and booted with painted neck ties and lapels and only a life jacket to cover the, erm, cockpit. On second thoughts...

In addition, the 2009 Mercer Quality of Living Survey ranked Auckland 4th place and Wellington 12th place in the world on its list. Taxation in New Zealand is lighter than in other OECD countries. New Zealand is one of the most free market capitalist economies according to economic freedom indices.
New Zealand is a country heavily dependent on free trade, particularly in agricultural products. Exports account for around 24% of its output, which is a relatively high figure (it is around 50% for many smaller European countries). This makes New Zealand particularly vulnerable to international commodity prices and global economic slowdowns. Its principal export industries are agriculture, horticulture, fishing and forestry.
